RESOURCE CONNECTIONS
* Note This page contains several external hyperlinks. Once you click on a blue hyperlink (i.e., http://www.forexample.com), that document will load in the browser's window. You will then be browsing online and not on the ARTS WORK CD-ROM. If any of these links do not work, copy and paste link or program name into a search engine, such as Yahoo or Google.
This section contains resource suggestions to assist in
transitions and transformation. It is
not comprehensive in any sense. Rather,
it is a compilation of suggestions from the varied contributors to the ARTS WORK Curricular Framework, focusing
on web-based resources. You can link
directly to the websites and Email addresses listed by selecting “Control” and
clicking your mouse.
A volume could and should be dedicated to fully
annotating the many resources available in this growing field. Due to space limitations, few individual
artists are listed. Information is
categorized for ease of use, trying both to avoid duplication and realizing
that some programs, services, and resources are cross-categorical. Many programs have additional services and
local programs not listed. The limited
information presented here is offered to provide basic contact
information. This information is
up-to-date at the time of publication. With
the changing nature of programs, services, and the Internet, we urge you to use
this information to maintain your own updated resource list. VSA arts and its affiliates may be able to
assist in tracking down specific information and local programs and services.
The Arts Work Curricular Framework is a
companion piece to Putting Creativity to
Work (VSA arts, 2000) and the ARTiculate
Employment Training Program Manual (WVSA arts connection, 2002). Many useful resources can be found in these
publications. Putting Creativity to Work includes extensive appendices with
contact information on General Arts Organizations; Arts-Related Associations
and Unions; Arts-Related Journals, Trades, and Other Publications; Resources
for People with Disabilities in the Arts; Internship Opportunities in the Arts;
Funding Resources for Artists; State Vocational Rehabilitation Agencies; State
Technology Assistance Projects; State Client Assistance Programs and Protection
and Advocacy Agencies for People with Disabilities; and Job Search
Resources. A Bibliography on arts and
career development is also included.
The ARTiculate Manual
includes a very useful bibliography on career development inventories as well
as self-determination and team approaches and resource lists of relevant arts,
education, employment, and disability agencies and funding references.
Accessible Studio
Arts Programs
(The following are self-identified programs that provide part or
full-time studio arts programs for individuals with disabilities to assist in
locating programs with like interests.
The curriculum, content, and extent of the programs vary greatly. Some offer primarily visual or performing arts
instruction while others are multidisciplinary. Settings range from community
arts centers to schools. Some also
offer a variety of other instructional opportunities; all offer some type of
ongoing studio arts programming. Distinctions
between studio arts programs and other art and disability programs may be small
or non-existent.)
